In 2013-2015, DONG Energy will build the Borkum Riffgrund 1 Wind Farm in the German sector of the North Sea. The farm will be one of Germany’s largest wind farms with a capacity of 320 MW, and will be able to supply CO2-free power equivalent to nearly 330,000 German households' annual power consumption.

The farm is located approx. 55 km from the north-west coast of Germany. Construction is expected to start in 2013, and the farm will supply power from 2014.

In addition to Borkum Riffgrund 1, DONG Energy is also working on further developing a neighbouring project, Borkum Riffgrund 2, the development of which has yet to be finalized.
