London Array Offshore Wind Farm
The London Array Offshore wind farm will be located more than 20km (12 miles) from the Kent and Essex coasts in the outer Thames Estuary. In July 2008, DONG Energy and project partner E.ON Climate & Renewables bought Shell’s interest in London Array, and as a result each now holds a 50% interest in the project through their respective special purpose project companies. E.ON has in October 2008 taken in a 40% investor, the Abu Dhabi initiative Masdar, at their project company level, but this arrangement still enables the project to be operated as a 50/50 unincorporated joint venture. Concession allows for generating capacity of up to 1000 MW and up to 341 turbines, with a first phase envisaged to encompass 175 turbines and a generating capacity of 630 MW.
