With more than 20 years’ experience in the wind power industry, DONG Energy is one of the leading offshore wind farm developers in the world and has installed half of the world’s largest offshore wind farms.

The UK is one of DONG Energy’s primary markets for developing offshore wind, having invested £3 billion  in UK renewable since 2005. Walney is the latest of four offshore wind farms to be commissioned by DONG Energy in the UK. Within the next couple of years, together with partners, we will commission another two major offshore wind farms; Lincs and London Array. Our offshore pipeline of future projects in the UK comprises more than 4.8 gigawatts (GW).

DONG Energy has been pivotal in the UK’s attainment of 1GW of installed offshore wind power and we have delivered approximately one third of the 1GW capacity through the Barrow, Burbo Bank and Gunfleet Sands projects.

In the Crown Estate’s Round 2.5 Licence Round, DONG Energy has also been awarded the licence to further extend the capacity of the Burbo Bank (234 MW) and Walney (750 MW)  offshore wind farms, amounting to a total extension of 984 megawatts.

The EU has set an ambitious target with 20% of the energy consumed in Europe should come from renewable energy sources in 2020. The UK is Europe’s windiest country, estimated to have a least one third of the entire European Union wind resource. At DONG Energy we anticipate that our offshore wind projects in the UK will play a key role in achieving the Government and EU targets.
