With more than one million customers, Denmark is our main market, where we enjoy a leading position in both electricity and gas, with market shares of 21% and 32% respectively in 2010.

New position in the United Kingdom
On the 18th October DONG Energy and Shell UK signed a Sales and Purchase Agreement to acquire Shell Gas Direct. EU clearance has now been granted by the commission and the acquisition is expected to be completed in the coming months. When completed the  transaction will underline our commitment to the UK and will provide DONG Energy Sales with a unique opportunity to enter the natural gas sales market.

It is our intention to gain the strategic platform needed to become an integrated energy company in the UK, by tying together our gas and power assets with a retail downstream business. Our total investment including all currently planned projects from 2005 in the UK will amount to around 3.7 billion GBP.

Geographical markets outside Denmark

Sweden
Sales offices in Gothenburg and Malmo serve business customers in Southwest Sweden.Our customers in Sweden bought 3.7 TWh of natural gas in 2010, equivalent to a 22% market share.

The Netherlands
In 2010 we entered into an agreement with the power company De Nederlandse Energie Maatchappij. We handle administrative matters in connection with the supply of electricity and gas to about 230,000 private and industrial customers.

Germany
DONG Energy Sales GmbH  sells energy products to more than 50 municipal utilities and larger industrial clients.

Partnerships and decreasing energy consumption

 

DONG Energy is an expert on tailored consulting services which decrease energy consumption. Our partnerships aim to cut energy consumption by more than 10% and build a more environmentally friendly profile for the partner concerned. The partners can also choose to convert their energy savings into renewable energy supply.

The partnership concept has been so successful that it is now being marketed as an off the shelf solution in Denmark. To date there are more than 100 partnerships with companies, municipalities and organisations. The first partnership was agreed in 2007 with a world leading medical care company. DONG and its partner were able to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% at zero cost to the Company despite being in a period where sales and therefore activity grew by more than 100%. In 2010, DONG Energy achieved 340 GWh in energy savings. This is equivalent to a year’s worth of electricity consumption for 90.000 households.
