Exploration & Production
In recent years DONG Energy has expanded its exploration and production business in the Atlantic Margin, an area between the Shetland Isles and the Faeroe Islands. Significant gas reserves have been confirmed in this region, which is often referred to as West of Shetland.
Our UK exploration and production activities started in 2001 when we were awarded three exploration licences. Today our portfolio includes 19 UK licences, covering a total area of 6,000km2.
We currently operate four licences and we are the only company to have a direct interest in all the existing potential developments in the region being considered by the West of Shetland Task Force. This unique situation offers DONG Energy a real competitive advantage in the area, as well as giving our staff a great opportunity to contribute to all of these developments through a true regional understanding and by sharing important findings across assets.
Our current focus
We expect the West of Shetland region to be one of our key growth areas as discoveries move into development and infrastructure is built. These developments could represent the last major infrastructure project on the UK Continental Shelf.
Our current focus at present is on bringing the Laggan and Tormore gas fields through the development stage and into production. A key challenge is to construct the optimum infrastructure of pipelines and terminals to maximise value and production. In achieving this we will work closely with government regulators, industry bodies and our partners to coordinate all our exploration and production activities in the UK.
